Privacy Policy
The Tide Engine Archive ("this site") is a personal research publication run by Daniel. Your privacy matters, so this page explains in plain English what data this site handles and why. If anything here is unclear, contact me.
1. Data I collect directly
If you use the contact form, I receive your name, email address, and message content. I use these solely to reply to you. I do not sell, rent, or share your message data with third parties for marketing, and I delete correspondence on request.
2. Data collected automatically
Like nearly every website, this site's hosting provider records basic technical logs (pages requested, timestamps, approximate network information) for security and reliability. These logs are kept briefly by the host and are not used to build profiles of readers.
3. Cookies
This site uses a single first-party cookie (technically browser local storage) to remember whether you dismissed the cookie notice. No tracking cookies are set by the site itself today. If analytics is added later, this policy will be updated before it goes live.
4. Google AdSense and advertising cookies
This site has applied for — or intends to display — ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and you can opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info. Learn how Google uses data from partner sites at policies.google.com.
5. Embedded content and outbound links
Articles link out to museums, agencies such as NOAA, and academic publishers. Those sites operate their own privacy policies; I encourage you to read them. This site embeds no third-party frames or fingerprinting scripts.
6. Children's privacy
This site is a general-audience history of science publication and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including the EU/UK under GDPR and California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict personal data you sent me. To exercise any right, contact me and I will respond within 30 days.
8. Changes to this policy
Material changes will be noted here with a new "last updated" date. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
